A complete framework for a beginner shortlist

A complete comparison includes use, evidence, ownership and transaction. Completeness does not mean listing every product on the market.

Set a boundary for the comparison

State the intended use, budget and requirements for controls, connectivity and storage. Compare only exact models that meet that brief. Keep an explicit no-purchase option. This prevents extra features from redefining the need halfway through the research.

Build an evidence record

Record contact material, dimensions, care instructions and source links. Separate manufacturer statements, seller terms and reviewer opinions. Add an unknown column. Two pages repeating the same product copy do not establish independent confirmation of an uncertain claim.

Include life after checkout

Check cleaning effort, charging, parts, warranty conditions and delivery or returns. Decide what uncertainty is acceptable and what needs an answer first. The framework supports a decision; it cannot calculate personal fit or guarantee enjoyment. Symptoms and consent remain separate questions.

Before you decide

Does my comparison include the work of owning the item and the limits of the available evidence?

Sources and the limits of this guide

The source notes identify what each reference supports. Comparison steps and example wording are editorial guidance. No hands-on testing, clinical review or approval by these organizations is claimed.

  • FTC: Online Shopping

Supports checking exact models, seller terms, total cost, returns and privacy policies. US consumer guidance; it does not test any product.

  • Brown University BWell: Sex Toys

Supports checking condition, stopping when use hurts, discussing boundaries and following manufacturer care instructions. It does not establish a safe size or guarantee suitability.

Source links and relevant sections checked . This is a reference check date, not the source publication date or a clinical review.

For adults 18+. General education only. Health symptoms and treatment questions require individual qualified advice. To report an error, email [email protected] with the page and the detail that needs checking; do not send private health records.
